Just a little update on the Yorkston/Chequerboard gig last night. Little because I’m knackered having stayed out a bit late with my Clifden gig buddy and then jumping into the car to drive to Dublin this morn.
Gig was absolutely magic. Great crowd and you could hear a pin drop 99.9% of the time. Always a pleasure to hear Chequerboard live and he didn’t disappoint. Beautiful set. James Yorkston seemed to be in great form. He was playing solo, just him and the guitar rather than the full band I’d seen before, and it worked beautifully. He played tons and tons of tunes -I think he played an hour and half set- peppered with banter and jokes on Sligo’s city status and the Venga Boys. Yep- you had to be there I’m afraid. Highlight for me was Woozy with Cider. He obliged a request from the floor for what must be a tricky song to do live- as it’s almost spoken word. Remembering it all is a challenge in itself i’m sure, but he did and them some, elaborating on the wedding party tale with new wig based escapades.
Fantastic gig and fantastic to see so many people out for it. REstores my faith. Fair play to mossy for putting it together. More please
