Seems like Crystal Castles might have revoked any future Sonar invitations with a shoddy gig ending in a quasi-punch up which has the music blogs all a twitter.
there is no shortage of reportage on it, most of which include the below fan video
and a list of Little Boots’live tweeting on the gig. (via NME and Ampersand)
British singer Little Boots twittered about it thusly:
• Woah just watched crystal castles at sonar, sound was awful throughout kept cutting out so at te end alice started trashing the stage…
• ..then the sound guy tried to rugby tackle her so ethan jumped out and punched him! Massive!8:27 PM Jun 20th
• Ok just spoke to alice apparently it was her who socked him one ha ha 9:10 PM Jun 20th
All of which seemed to insinuate that Sonar and the sound was at fault. Sonar is having none of it though and posted this very comprehensive “explanation” to their fb group.
In view of the difficulties during the show by Crystal Castles last night, the festival organisers would like to make the following clear:
· All the technical problems during the concert were the sole responsibility of the group and their team of technicians.
· Despite the warnings and advice given by the festival organisers, the band’s sound technician adjusted the configuration of the equipment incorrectly, which led to the series of errors and mishaps which the concert finally consisted of.
· The festival provides the artists with technical equipment of the highest quality and all the human resources to operate it under optimum conditions. The correct use of this equipment is the responsibility of the artists and their team from the point at which their show begins, which is when they take control of the equipment and become responsible for operating it.
· The festival’s technical supervisors repeatedly attempted to remedy the situation, by asking the band’s sound team to solve the problem. Their efforts were in vain due to the negligent and irresponsible attitude which the band’s technicians displayed throughout the show.
· The festival organisers deeply regret the inconvenience caused, which turned one of the night’s most eagerly-awaited shows into a disaster.
Ah yes- the truly unique live experience is live and well and throwing it’s toys out of the playpen
