I’ve been working on the Fresh Air Festival for the last few weeks and a lot of my online energy is going into that with the result that I’ve been very remiss over here at stranded, but I will catch up tomorrow- expect a flurry of new posts! With Fresh Air I’m not in studio, but I’m listening in every night and posting a new blog about each show the following day once the mp3 is available for listen back.
Spent today listening back to a lot of the shows and I am loving how they’re developing. Each night an artist comes in to chat to Donal, to play some live tunes (many of which are brand new for Fresh Air) and then to chat a bit about their process, and to pick some tunes for Donal to play. The great thing about this is that of course people are trying hard to think of artists Donal wouldn’t know about already, so I’m getting to expand my “must listen to” list of artists.
A favourite was Katie Kim’s pick of Sibylle Baier- someone I’d heard mentioned once but never listened to- and a whole host of picks from the brothers Kitt (aka Spilly Walker) including cfcf, Washed Out and a madvillian track that was new to me. I’ve been trying to document everyones picks, along with links to myspace and youtube, as we go- I reckon the Spilly post from today is the most comprehensive in that way- see what you think> Painting the morning with the night’s brush
