i soldier
A powerful new exhibition opens at the Model this weekend in Sligo. Called Signals in the Dark: Art in the Shadow of War, it confronts issues of global warfare and how it is imaged and imagined in our contemporary world. I work at the Model so i’m declaring a personal interest here, but it will be a great show and my world is massively inhabited by my work so this happens a lot.
It’s curated by our new Director Seamus Kealy who originally conceived the show for his previous gallery; The Blackwood in Toronto, Canada. The exhbition has been on tour since and embarks on a European leg starting with the Sligo dates.
There’s loads of info on the site as you’d imagine, but the best thing is to come down and check it out. There’s an official opening on Saturday 14th from 5pm where Seamus will lead a free tour of the show and you can have a glass of vino and check it all out. If you mosey on down you’ll get to see our new exhibition space too which is very lovely. We’ve taken over two floors of a building called Castle House on Castle Street in Sligo which is bang in the middle of town and pretty perfect for gallery space, despite starting life as a retail space and an office floor. Amazing what white walls and crisp white paint and carpeting can do. Also amazing what impact an unexplained sign can have…
