Delighted to see that Myles’O’Reilly’s documentary about The Cave gigs is getting it’s premiere very soon – Feb 16th in fact – in Cork Opera House. They were exceptionally special gigs (my review here), and from the look of this trailer Myles has captured them perfectly. It’ll be fascinating to see the whole story of the Caves revealed on film, and what a wonderful resource for them to have – this beautiful document of a very special place, at a very unique moment in time.
Ian from Chutney films has just uploaded a great little film of Dineen’s 2007 Month of Sundays project which features lots of chat from Dineen and some great performances by
- Donato Wharton,
- Lisa Hannigan,
- Ronan O’Snodaigh,
- Jape (an early acoustic version of Phil Lynott),
- Milosh,
- Si Schroeder and
- Matt Elliott.
Dark Room Notes, Halves and Windings were also part of that tour, but don’t appear on film, and there’s archive info of the project on myspace (yes, it still lives) here>
Having stayed up into the extended wee Small Hours last night (and planning to “wake“them later tonight) my posting abilities are EXTREMELY limited to day so I’m doing a video/track post as the easy way out.
Two great new irish videos, both very different, came my way in the last week. The first is a totally delightful video from the terrific Chris Judge and Clíona O’Flaherty for one of my favourite Lisa Hannigan tracks from Passenger; Safe Travels (Don’t Die) and the other is a photocopy opus by Feargal Brennan for the debut New Jackson – David Kitt’s excellent new side project (DOE, I work with Kittser a bit, but not on the New Jackson stuff) – track Night Mail.
And something free to cheer up your weekend – The Natural History Museum wrote a new song called The Small Hours, in honour of Dineen’s show ending, and it’s been made available free to download here>
