This is a clever thing- Sligo Live are webcasting from Sligo Pubs at this years festival. They say it’s the first time that any music festival in Ireland (and to the best of their knowledge the world) has tried this sort of thing and it seems like a great idea for our much talked about diaspora around the world – or even people that can’t make it to Sligo for the Festival.
So tell people to head to www.sligolive.ie over this coming weekend where they can watch the sessions as they happen live online. They’re also accepting requests and shout outs on info@sligolive.ie so if you’ve got a cousin in New York, friend in Dubai, Dublin or Durban, links with an Irish pub/society abroad tell them get emailing if they want to be virtually present in Sligo
WEBCAST SCHEDULE
Friday Oct 23rd – Rendezvous – Session starts 11pm webcast live from Midnight
Saturday Oct 24th – Shoot The Crows – Session starts 7pm webcast live from 8pm
Sunday Oct 25th – Hargadons – Session starts 5pm webcast live from 6pm
My brother used to have a great vintage t-shirt that said “Yes! Kites” …at least I think it did – I might have misplaced an exclamation or 2. So now I want one that says “yes! bikes!” …well dublin bikes at least. I signed up for the year long pass which is a steal at €10 and had my first go of a bike on Saturday. Perfect for out of towners to get around the city for cheap, I hopped a bike near the IFSC and suddenly realised I hadn’t been on one in about 6 years. Thankfully the saying is true and off I went. Whizzed up to Fallon & Byrne on Exchequer street (thanks for some patient buses and pedestrians while I tried to figure out cycle lanes and crossings) and with the help of a friendly fellow bike user managed to get my bike locked back in to the stand. Hey Presto!
They’re a bit heavy alright but the basket is dead handy and they feel pretty secure at least. I look forward to a ton more dublin discovery via bike…when I’m not wearing heels of course.
There are parts of this recession business that I love. the oodles of good value around being the main thing. I also love a bit of entrepreneurial spirit so big double kudos to Tom Yam who are coming up with all sorts of special offers linked in with their excellent dinner menu.
We love Tom Yam at Stranded and when I last posted about it I suggested you might like to drop in for dinner before a film at the gaiety, or get take away and your DVD’s from xtravision all in one trip, but it seems they’ve gone one better and paired up with both places some great all-in deals.
Sligo Events has details of a Tom Yam + Cinema + night club offer for only €21 on Wednesday nights, and while I was in Tom Yam last night I noticed another great deal with Xtravision. You can order your 2 movies for 2 nights from Xtravision over the phone, then your dinner from Tom Yam over the phone, and the Tom Yam delivery folk will pick up your movies for you and deliver the whole lot to your door! how perfect is that for a miserable rainy weeknight or a hungover sunday when you don’t want to leave the house. brilliant. Can’t find a link about it online but you can call tom yam on 071-915 1826 and xtravision on 071-917 4180. As you’d imagine you have to have an xtravision account and the delivery has to be going to the account address.
